Brake Line Replacement

Brake lines are the rigid tubes that carry hydraulic pressure through the vehicle. Replacement addresses corrosion, physical damage, or confirmed leakage. Line routing, material, fittings, and support are safety-related details; a damaged section requires more than sealing its exterior or adding brake fluid.

Reasons to inspect the lines

  • A brake-fluid leak appears under the vehicle or near a rigid line connection.
  • Inspection reveals severe corrosion, damaged tubing, or a line rubbing against another part.

How line problems develop

Road exposure, age, vibration, and impact damage can weaken tubing or its connections. Corrosion may extend beyond the most visible leak. A low reservoir or soft pedal can also result from another hydraulic component, so the source should be identified before selecting the repair boundaries.

What replacement can involve

The damaged area and neighboring lines are evaluated to determine an appropriate scope. Replacement tubing and connections must suit brake-system service, with correct routing and secure supports. After the circuit is restored, bleeding and leak checks are required. Some systems need additional vehicle-specific procedures when air has entered certain components.

When not to drive

A leaking brake line can cause serious loss of braking. Park safely and arrange transport rather than attempting to drive with repeated fluid additions. Mention the leak location, warning lights, and whether the pedal changed suddenly. The shop can explain any wider corrosion concerns found during inspection.
